From VanCity Buzz: "Lunch Meet has been going on for a couple of weeks now and seems to be growing in popularity. Taking the long table concept to the extreme, this collaboration between the Vancouver Public Space Network, Space2Place and the City of Vancouver’s Viva Vancouver initiative takes place every Thursday in July on the 300-block of Abbott Street.
Following two successful weeks of noon-time outdoor dining, the third installment of LUNCH MEET is set to be bigger than ever. We’ve added more tables and chairs to feed the need of the hungry lunch time crowd, as many have taken advantage of the unique communal quality of the Long Table to make new friends, discuss work projects, or just bask in the hot sun. And the tasty tunes provided by DJ Rocky Fisher and lovely centerpieces from Olla Flowers gave everyone even more reason to take an extra-long lunch break.
But the last two weeks were just a taste of things to come. This week, the Pig on the Street and Street Meet food trucks will be joining us on site to offer even more delectable goodies for you foodies.
So bring your boss, classmate, neighbour, and appetite to the 300 block of Abbott St., between Hastings and Cordova, on Thursday July 19th from 11:30am to 1:30pm for a one of a kind lunch time experience."

From Miss 604: "Last week Vancouver Public Spaces Network and Space2Placehosted their first Lunch Meet. An immediate success, trending city-wide on Twitter, this free outdoor event will take place every Thursday in July.
The concept is simple, head to the 300 block of Abbott Street (at Cordova) anytime between 11:30am and 1:30pm to meet a neighbour, eat your lunch, get lunch from a food truck, and enjoy some music.
A report on last week from VPSN: “Lunch Meet transformed the 300-block of Abbott Street into an urban cafeteria, offering a long-table dining experience and a range of exciting culinary choices. Many participants took advantage of the lunch specials offered by local businesses and food carts, while others chose to pack their own lunches. Local DJ Rocky Fisher provided musical entertainment throughout the communal outdoor meal.”

From VPSN Blog: "Hundreds of people descended on to Abbott Street each Thursday in July for Lunch Meet. The VPSN transformed half a block of Abbott Street into a place for people, with a long table and music provided by DJ Rocky Fisher to bring people together to share in a communal outdoor meal. Lunch Meet event invited people to eat lunch together, share a unique experience and start a conversation in a first step to building a community. This event took many volunteers to help set up and take down the equipment and a big thanks to Simon for his dedicated ground work for this project. Lunch Meet was supported by local businesses such as; Ignite Smoke Shop, Olla Flowers and the Hastings Crossing Business Improvement Association. The beautiful handcrafted long table was supplied by Emily Carr University student Theunis Snyman."
